Church & Faith
- Founding Family Members of the Brunswick Reformed Church, 1959-1997
- Member of the Medina United Methodist Church since 1997
- Past Chair, Administration Council
- Usher & Communion Steward
- National Day of Prayer
My parents were charter members of the Brunswick Reformed Church. They were instrumental in starting
the church and building the initial building in 1961. I served on several building committees and was
elected both elder and deacon by the congregation, positions which oversee the buildings, grounds and
faith of the church members. My father and I were the first to serve on the church consistory
(governing board for church) as father and son at the same time. My wife, Chris, and I taught Sunday
School for many years to third and fourth grade youth of the church.
When our children, Jon and Nicole, reached school age, we joined the Medina United Methodist Church so
that they could attend and interact with community youth. At the United Methodist Church, Chris and I
both serve as ushers and communion stewards. I have assisted as a substitute Sunday school teacher and
serves as the Chairman of the Administrative Council.
My leadership experiences in these two churches are beneficial as your Mayor. As the Chief of Police,
I worked with various Medina Ministerial Association members to plan, coordinate and promote events in
Medina - the Martin Luther King Annual Celebration; Celebrating Diversity festivals on Public Square;
the annual Veteran’s Day Concert; the United States Army Band and Chorus performance; and the National
Day of Prayer events. These interactions with a variety of ministers, as well as my personal
church-based experiences, assisted me in developing a respect and recognition for a variety of faiths
in the community. As Mayor of the City of Medina, I will continue to support the faith community as
they minister to their parishioners.
